Get a Fresh Perspective

I witnessed something truly extraordinary this month when driving north through San Francisco one rainy evening at sunset: TWO double rainbows over the San Francisco bay! This remarkable sight was partially reported by people who posted photos of one or the other double rainbow online, yet I have yet to see anyone else reporting the even more amazing fact that not one but two double rainbows appeared simultaneously that day. I felt fortunate to be at the perfect location at the perfect time to see these two double rainbows. I was driving my car at that time, unable to take a picture, noting that the two double rainbows would not have fit in one photo frame anyway, as they were miles and miles apart. When I checked the internet later to see if anyone else had noticed two double rainbows, I found a few photos and references to a single double rainbow, but none mentioning this quadruple rainbow extravaganza.

What are we missing? We can observe a great deal more than we usually do by continuing to observe our surroundings even after we think we have just seen what we need to see. Rather than judging or categorizing something, it is possible to accept the information we receive and observe our thoughts and feelings about this experience. Our ability to observe ourselves gives us the opportunity to identify our sense of self with a higher level of consciousness, which in turn sets us free to take notice and better enjoy what is happening right here, right now. This concept is explained and explored brilliantly in the book, The Untethered Soul, in which author Michael Singer writes about how to understand and attain enlightenment.
