"Life isn't about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself."
- -George Bernard Shaw

This month has been extraordinary for me in many ways, not the least of which involves seeing myself and everyone in my life in a completely new light. Part of this reviewing is a recreation of how I see myself... in how I newly comprehend that I am indeed creating myselt to be who I am. Rather than see myself as not being good at something, I consider myself a beginner who is excited to learn new thikngs. Such an approach to life has benefits beyond the obvious one of considering oneself capable of change... it establishes a sense of confidence that we can change in desired ways.

Lots of things I've done seemed unattainable to me before I did them, such as receiving my physics degree from UC Berkeley, getting a black belt after age 40, designing and finishing a full size quilt, composing and performing a song about Karen Kimball, writing the books I have written, and doing the special kind of spiritual life coaching I do. Each time I try something new, I am essentially creating a new me... a new version of myself which is not necessarily based on what people expect from me, nor based on who I have been before, but is instead a brand new me that I am envisioning even as I create it.

When you imagine how you can create a whole new you by learning new skills, trying new things, meeting new people, going new places... what kind of person would you most like to become? Close your eyes for a moment, and imagine that you are that person.

Can you envision yourself looking and feeling healthier, happier, and more fulfilled? What kinds of classes would you take or books would you read in order to start learning about making some of these changes? Just by giving these questions some serious thought right now, you are now initiating the process of positive self recreation. The word recreation is particularly apt here, as you can have a lot of fun when you take yourself from where you are to where you would like to be!
